DREAMers: a visual art conversation about DACA, Deportation Defense, and the American Dream

This collaborative exhibit is created through a series of conversations between Pleiades Arts, Alerta Migratoria NC, and The NC Dream Coalition. We hope you will visit the exhibit to see what local artists have to say about DACA, the threat of deportation, and reaching for the American Dream.

The exhibit runs from January 4-31, 2018 with a reception and artists’ salon on Friday, January 19th from 6-9 pm. The salon will include artists as well as speakers from Alerta Migratoria and The NC Dream Coalition.

“Alerta Migratoria NC is a rapid response deportation defense network and hotline. We uphold the human right to migrate. Our goal is to halt deportations by empowering those affected daily by a broken immigration system that sustains the private prison industry while tearing apart families as well as those indirectly affected. We partner with churches, schools, and other community organizations.”

The NC Dream Coalition (NCDC) is undocumented youth-led that brings together several diverse groups and organizations including schools, individual members, contributors and allies throughout the state. The NCDC was founded by North Carolina’s undocumented youth in response to the rescinding of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program by the Trump Administration.

Pleiades Arts Inc an artists driven, community oriented non-profit that harnesses the power of visual arts to bring people together and build dialogue. The mission of Pleiades Arts is three-fold: Community Engagement and Access to Art, Arts Education and Innovation, and Social Justice Initiatives.
